Planning on showing with Port City Markets tonight... hopefully it won't rain! I won't be taking in a huge amount of my paintings with the threat, but will have a few favorites, new abstracts, cards with my images and some of my children's book Tittle Tattle at the Zoo.
I read the book to several 3rd grade classes this week at a local school.. I love doing those, out of the mouths of babes. It's lots of fun.... more scheduled next week, maybe if I can swing it, I'll pop up a video of it.

Palafox Market: July 18th
Dennis and I are finally back from vacation with the boys and I offered to fill in for him on Saturday. What a gorgous day! There was a wonderful westerly breeze and the temp remained in the 80s. Perfect for an outdoor market! This is only my second time filling in for him, and I have to say, I am quite impressed with the foot traffic as well as the quality of vendors! You really must come visit! The local produce is wonderful; there's is a terrific selection of plants and herbs offered; and you'll be amazed at the things you can purchase for yourself or as a gift! Be sure to look us up! we continue to alternate Dennis' artwork so if you're a regular and are interested in a particular piece you may have seen, please contact us! We'll be sure to bring it along. Scroll down to see some images of his work... And of course, we always have our children's book Tittle Tattle at the Zoo available for purchase as well as notecards featuring Dennis' many pieces. Now at the Port City Farmers' Market
Last night was my second time at the Port City Farmers' Market. Nice crowd, but really hot again. Unfortunately my display tent broke...

Me and the Boys
I posted this image as a test so I can start posting some of my work with comments. I've added lots of images at the bottom of the blog, take a look. First "Art Camp" class
This morning I taught what I hope to be the first of many successful Summer Art Camps for kids. Camps are hosted by the Santa Rosa Teacher & Craft Supply store on Hwy 98 in Navarre.
Our first class was a watercolor class and the students were great! Everyone was eager to learn and proved to be budding artists. We did a still-life of fruit, which illustrated to the children that you can paint any subject. I was especially pleased with everyones enthusiasm.
I've got another class on Friday, June 19th and there is still room if you're interested in signing up your kids.
We also have "Build a Book" week long camps in July. For more information on any of the art camps or to sign up, contact the Santa Rosa Teacher & Craft Supply (contact info on the left).

So what's up with GNBAA?
Greater Navarre Beach Arts Association (GNBAA) was a not for profit organization that turned very sour. BUT, we ask that you just simply decide for yourself about its activities and whether you really want to support it. We don't.
Follow the link to the last letter filed with the State of Florida Department of Agriculture (covers not-for-profits). It's a long and nasty document (parental discretion may need to be advised), but in a (big) nutshell... a group of Navarre area artists decided to start making those individuals running GNBAA accountable. With any nonprofit, transparency in operations is expected. When questions were asked, members were harassed. The questions were simple: Can you show me where this money is going; can you explain to me your process, how does A + B = C (doesn't make sense to me) etc, etc. Instead of providing the information, the Board decided to confront questioning members with insults and accusations of their own, and in lots of cases, some very personal attacks. Why on Earth would anyone question authority? Members asking questions were harassed to the point where other members would just find it easier to keep quiet. Eventually, membership went ahead and voted to dissolve the group. Unfortunately, the (former) Board decided that if they didn't show up, it wouldn't count (against all FL statutes & laws). Members did everything by the book. Former Board decided to break with statutes and reinstate without (former) members knowledge, not even the courtesy of meeting notification! Surprise! Another break from FL Statutes! LONG story short, GNBAA is now active against (former) member wishes. We believe this organization is not best for the artistic community. For the love of art, we continue to monitor its activities (ie, Karaoke contests - bar entertainment - not art) and yard sales.
Oh, one more thing, why not just keep pursuing GNBAA with the state? Because the bottom line- answer we keep getting is "it's a civil issue, take it to court"... we'd rater create thank you very much... end of Chapter One. Not withstanding their own version of events, we choose the side of justice.

FunFest 09 Day 1
It was great to see fellow artists that I have missed and to talk to all of you. Thank you to Jim, Judy and Johnnie for your support. The new abstracts generated a lot of interest with some great comments... they are all still for sale though.
Foot traffic was slower than expected but picked up some later in the evening for the fireworks, which were terrific., unfortunately, it's not an evening show for artists. The Funfest was definately worthwile though, it's always good to connect with the community and get my art out there for everyone to see. coworkers, students I drive, friends and associates.... I'll post some pictures tomorrow after we break down the event.... we're all hoping the rain will hold off....
